Emergency lighting

Emergency lighting requirements are set out in British Standard BS5266-1:2011  This standard, updated from the previous one issued in 2005, upgrades the requirements of many commercial and industrial premises.  Additional areas now to be considered include reception areas, fire alarm panels, treatment rooms and kitchens.

Emergency lighting specification should form part of the building's Fire Risk Assessment, and be continually updated within an annual review of the Fire Risk Assessment.

Maintenance and testing of emergency lighting should be carried out by a competent person.
